The Canada Federation Candidate is qualified and will deliver on his First Nations’ objectives for Canada because:
Mr. Chamas has over 25 years of experience in First Nations and aboriginal issues internationally.
Mr. Chamas has been instrumental in socio-economic development in Canadian First Nations as well as aboriginal groups in New Zealand and Australia.
Mr. Chamas has worked to effectuate policy changes within indigenous populations for alternative justice development.
Mr. Chamas understands the First Nations’ desire for true self-determination and the nature of their living conditions that are not in keeping with the rhetoric of human rights’ position of the current government and all governments before.
Mr. Chamas will work in partnership with the First Nations’ leadership to establish their mandate for Canada to improve the well-being and living standards of their communities across the nation.
The challenges we face with our First Nations are not insurmountable but need a fresh start with a real partnership. Land claims can not be settled when one side is working against the interests of the other. Why force assimilation on nations who were here before us?
We must be committed to understanding our roles within Canada. We must look at the historical basis under which the natives were originally protected by the Crown and that we became the caretakers of the Crown. These historical promises of protection were violated with the murder of thousands of children who were in the residential school system. These atrocities must be answered by the parties, agents, and organizations responsible for these crimes against humanity.
We must transcend the discrimination based in ignorance or denial and recognize our role and theirs. We must show, as an example to the global community, our good faith and leadership to bring our native partners into their rightful place amongst us.
We cannot compare them to other ethnic groups as we as a nation segregated them to reservations. No other ethnic group has borne this type of treatment. And in real terms, the leadership who decided this had ill intent to condemn them to “die-out”. But have the current leadership changed even after 150 years?
No, look at the diamond mining going on without native partnership, in fact that particular reserve is so below the living standard it cannot be considered living. There are families with no running water, no bathroom facilities in their homes, and schools built on contaminated ground that still is not cleaned up. They are the forgotten.
How, in this country, can we see children growing up in this type of environment that we would not tolerate for our own? The abuse did not stop in residential schools. The government continues the abuse across the nation.
Canada Federation is committed to a partnership with Native Leadership and to raise the living standards within the native communities across this nation.
